The Shoot...

I wanted to create an abnormal and quite contemporary feel to the photo, I gave my photographer my initial inspirational imagery and he came up with lighting plans and helped create the scene with angles and gave an input on poses too which was really helpful.

My concept was to create abnormal shapes and give a contemporary feel to fashion, I wanted to create strange shapes with the body through the styling, poses and little elements within the garments such as cotton wool in the tights, using a bed sheet and draping it on the model, oversized pearls and a massive fur coat tied to the model with a belt to accentuate "baggy-ness" and the difference in sizes between the model and the garment. Overall I am really pleased with the shoot and the contemporary feel it gives, I love the clean lighting and delicate shadows that are created, my photographer; Tom Hole CLICK!!!! is currently editing the final 8 shots, so I will put them onto a spread and then a video and post it on here asap!

Photo shoot story boarding... (sorry about the bad quality pictures)
These two ideas I really like, I would have the model facing her back to the camera, it would create a silhouette similar to a manequinn and also quite and alien like shape.

This one I had the idea of using fabrics to create really long arms that wrap around the body- creating almost a straight jacket feel.

From this I thought perhaps I could create this on the top image of the model with her back to the camera with arms or fabrics wrapping around and restricting her, this idea was inspired from the work of Una Burke, you can see her work on my blog in previous posts.

This then developed further to using elastic bands all over the model but then just homing in on a certain area- eg shoulder/ neck and arm area. Focusing on the tight elastic against the soft skin.

This image I thought of having hair nets over the models face and her expression to be like she is screaming to give the idea of her being trapped like a fish when it is trapped in a net.

Here is a more subtle disfigureation that I would probably use photoshop to do, a boy and girl are in the shot the boy is leaning on the girls shoulder, but she has got two eyes- it is a subtle disfiguration but I want it to be more of a double take so people dont notice it at first.

Here my inspiration came from an illustration by Egon Schiele, the model would be wearing beautiful delicate fabrics and petty coats, but would be holding up the dress and her legs would have lumps and disfigurements on them, perhaps made from latex, pva etc or maybe padded out tights???

Here my inspiration came from Lucy and Bart with the balloons and tights idea, creating hunch backs and lumps and bumps making the body into a completely new silhouette

Similar idea here but with wadding or rubbish/ maybe plastic bags...???

Story boarding...

These story boards are the ones I did when I was planning out my video- I wanted to post them on here so that you can see where I was going, I'm putting them up now so that I can take inspiration from them to put into my photo shoot.

I like the sculptive effect the sleeves have, unfortuneately I don't have the name of the designer or model or website etc... Something to think about when padding out model- perhaps just accentuate certain areas!??

Change of plan...
I have decided to avoid the use of video to portray my ideas, as I feel like I am being forced into doing something that I really do not want to do, and I feel that it would not do justice to my ability to work.

Photographs are a huge influence in my life, imagery is everything and a single image can be so powerful and stand out completely. How people can communicate a single ideology through one image with no words is incredible, it is something that I am really attracted to and have been since I can remember.

So there we go yet another project where I decide to change plans at the last minute! I'm gonna combine the ideas from my story boards for the videos with the photo shoot too, maybe include some elements or something...

Gotta experiment with the garments, tights and balloons, maybe wadding will be good? I might try and use some paint and latex to deform the models faces. Need to play about with this to see what works best...

Using tight clothing- tights, jersey fabrics, etc and then padding them out with wadding/ balloons etc.

Using elastics, wire, make up, etc to create alien like features on the body.

Using poses and details to create disfigurements/ alien like forms...

UNA BURKE CLICK!!!

By binding leather around the human form, then once the body is removed shells of the figure are left. Vegetable dye was used to create the skin tone colour, this work is part of the Re.treat series by Burke, based mainly on Traumas, I like how the shells prevent the body from moving to its full potential, creating abnormal shapes.

This shirt taken from WeAr magazines October 2009 issue has strong similarities with Burke's work.

Colour inspiration
As my method of communication will be through video my colour range will be eclectic. However the colours will be saturated to give the effect of distance and memory. These images give an idea of this...
